Yahoo Mobile will enhance a Mobilink customer's lives by allowing him/her to stay connected with their family and friends all the time. With SMS based Yahoo! Messenger, Mobilink subscribers will be able to send and receive Yahoo! Messenger instant messages on their mobile phones!

Signing In/Out

Signing In from your computer 

Signing into Yahoo! Messenger for SMS is easy with Yahoo! Messenger. Instead of signing out of Yahoo! Messenger when you leave your computer, go to "Login" on Yahoo! Messenger and select the menu item "Login to Mobile Device". The first time you use this feature, you will be prompted to provide your Mobilink's mobile phone details. Thereafter, simply click on the menu item with your mobile number under "Login". You can also edit your Messenger Preferences to be always auto-signed into Messenger for SMS whenever you exit Messenger on your computer.

 Signing In from your mobile phone

 If you are away from your computer, the alternative way to sign into Yahoo! Messenger for SMS from your mobile is to send a SMS message "in [Yahoo! ID] [password]" like the example below.

 For example, if your Yahoo! ID is "myyahooid" and your password is "mypassword", your message would be "in myyahooid mypassword".
Send the message to 171
Once successfully signed in, you will receive a list of your online friends . Your status message will appear to users on the PC version of Yahoo! Messenger as "I'm on SMS".

 NB : Use lowercase for your password.


 Signing Out from your mobile phone

To sign out of Yahoo! Messenger, send a SMS message "out" and sent to 171

 Automatic Sign Out

If you're signed in, but don't use the SMS service for a week, you will automatically be signed out and sent a free SMS message inviting you to sign in again. You will then have to sign in again the next time you access any of these services.

Any offline messages will be archived and retrieved the next time you log on to Yahoo! Messenger on your computer. Archived messages will not be sent to you via SMS.


Get Friend List

What is a Friend List and Friend Code? 

Your Friend List is an SMS containing a list of your Messenger Friends' Codes and Yahoo! IDs. The Friend Code enables you to send a message to your Messenger Friend via SMS faster. It reduces the need for you to type out their whole Yahoo! ID when sending a message. When you sign in to Yahoo! Messenger for SMS, you will automatically receive the beginning of your Friends List at no charge.

Viewing Online Friends

To receive a list of online friends, compose an SMS message "get" and send the message to 171

Viewing More of Your Friend List 

If your entire Friend List won't fit into a single SMS message (160 characters), the Friend List message will tell you how many of your Friends are displayed in the message. For example, if only 7 of your 100 Messenger Friends' IDs fit in the SMS message, the message will say "7 of 100" at the top of the message and list those Friends' Friend Codes & IDs.
To receive more of your Friend List, reply to the Friend List message with "more".

Viewing Online Friends by Letter

If you have a long Friend List and need a particular Friend's ID, you can retrieve as a part of a Friend List grouped by the same first letter of their IDs. Compose an SMS message,

 For example, to request a list of all Messenger Friend s beginning with the letter "M", send the following SMS message to 171

Send/Receive Messages

Composing a Message

To send a message to a friend who is either online or offline, create an SMS message in the following format

 to Yahoo! ID or email address  message

This is an example of how a message to "john_smith" would look:

 to john_smith

 I'm on my way home.

Composign a Message by Friend Code

Using the Friend Code is a faster way to compose a message to a Friend. The code is next to the Friend's Yahoo! ID when you request the Friend List. To send a message to a Friend, create the SMS message in the following format:

For instance, to write a message to Friend Code 101, send a message that starts with "to 101", then your message and send the message to 171

 to 101 What time do you want to go out for a drink 2nite?


Receiving Messages

When signed in to Yahoo! Messenger for SMS, you will automatically receive all instant messages from your Messenger Friends as SMS messages on your mobile. They begin with the Yahoo! ID of the sender and look like this:

 john_smith: Want to pop out for lunch?


Replying to Messages

You can reply to the message you just received by using the built-in reply function on your phone.

The message will automatically be sent to the sender of the original message.

Add/Delete Friends

Adding a Friend to your Friend List 

To add a Yahoo! ID to your Friend List, create an SMS message on your mobile phone in the following format:

add  your friends's Yahoo! ID address

 For instance, to add the Yahoo! ID asad_ali to your Friend List, send a message "add asad_ali" to 171

Deleting a Friend to your Friend List

You can delete any Yahoo! ID from your Friend List by sending a message in the following format:

 del your friends's Yahoo! ID address

 For instance, to delete the Yahoo! ID john_smith from your Friend List, send a message " del john_smith" to 171

Authorization Request

Authorization Requests for your Friend List

When someone wants to add you to his or her Friend List, you will receive an authorization request from the person. The request will appear as this SMS message.

 your_friend would like to add you to his/her friend list. Reply with:
 "y" to accept only "a" to accept & add this user to your friend list
 "d" to deny


Accepting a Request

To accept an authorization request from a friend, reply to their authorization request by sending a message "y" to 171
