How can I get GPRS activated?
  a.
You can get GPRS activated by calling Customer Services at 111 or visiting your nearest Customer Services Center/Franchise Center.
  b.

Wait up to 2 days before GPRS is activated on your phone.

You will also have to configure your handset for GPRS. This can be done in the following ways:

   
  • Receiving the settings from Customer Services when you call them for activation by giving them the name of the vendor and model of the handset. If you do not know which phone vendor or model you have simply provide the first eight digits of your IMEI number and the Customer Services Representative will identify your handset. IMEI number can be found out by typing *#06# on our handset.
  • Or visit the Mobilink World website: http://www.mobilinkworld.com/
    At the Mobilink website you can either receive the settings by following the GPRS Settings link: http://www.mobilinkgsm.com/gprs_activate.php
    Or configure your handset manually by following the instructions on the Manual Settings link:

How can i get my Handset Configured

How can I get my handset configured to use Mobilink GPRS?
 

Handset settings can be configured in the following methods:

 
  • Receiving the settings from Customer Services when you call them for activation by giving them the name of the vendor and model of the handset. If you do not know which phone vendor or model you have simply provide the first eight digits of your IMEI number and the Customer Services Representative will identify your handset. IMEI number can be found out by typing *#06# on our handset.
  • Visit the Mobilink World website: http://www.mobilinkworld.com/
    At the Mobilink website you can either receive the settings by following the GPRS Settings link: http://www.mobilinkgsm.com/gprs_activate.php
    Remember to choose Indigo if you are a post-paid customer and Jazz if you are a pre-paid customer.

I have received the settings on my phone but the GPRS is still not working?
 

This can be due to the following reasons:

  • GPRS is not activated on your handset. Call Customer Services at 111
  • Your handset is not GPRS compatible
  • You are outside of the GPRS coverage area.

I am note able to access Hotmail and yahoo through www.Hotmail.com and www. Yahoo.com. What do I do?
 

There are some internet sites, which do not allow access through a phone / GPRS. In order to access Hotmail please use this address http://mobile.msn.com and to access yahoo please use this address http://mobile.yahoo.com

Can I just upgrade my phone to access Internet?
 

If your mobile is not GPRS enabled, you will have to buy a new one. If it is already GPRS enabled, then you can use it.

What is the difference between a WAP phone and a PC?
 

With WAP, most of the information on the Internet can be viewed on a mobile phone. However, the rich graphical experience through a PC cannot be displayed on a small handset screen. The other main difference is navigating between pages; you don't use a mouse to point-and-click - you will have to scroll and select your options by using the up or down keys, and 'click' by pressing the OK button on your handset.

What is a WAP browser?
 

A WAP browser is similar to Internet browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator. A WAP browser displays Internet-based information that is developed in WAP format

How are WAP sites different from the usual websites?
 

WAP sites are focused on text rather than graphics. Basic reasons for this being:

  • The speed of the mobile network is limited
  • The screen size of the handset is small

Do I have to replace my existing SIM card to access Mobilink world services?
 

No, you don't have to. As long as you subscribe to Mobilink GPRS, you can access these services with the existing SIM card.

How fast is GPRS?
 

Theoretically GPRS can achieve 171.2 Kbps. However, actual practice indicates rates that vary between 20-25kbps depending on network traffic.

Can existing handsets be used on a GPRS network?
 

No, GPRS requires handsets that are built to support GPRS. At this time there are three classes of handsets:

  • Class A - Class A handsets allow the user to simultaneously utilize the voice and data capabilities of the handset.
  • Class B - Class B handsets allow the user to utilize either the voice or data capabilities of the handset.
  • Class C - Class C handsets support either voice capabilities or data capabilities, but not both on the same handset

What is different about polyphonic ring tones?
 

Polyphonic ring tones can create multiple tones and/or notes simultaneously. This produces a more natural and realistic sound for melodies. Different phones support different number of simultaneous instruments (chords).

Where can I get polyphonic ring tones & how much do polyphonic ring-tones cost?
 

You can download polyphonic ring-tones from the MobilinkWorld menu on your GPRS phone. You can also record your own sounds and play them as ring-tones, provided your handset supports this feature. The price is mentioned on the site from where you download and it varies

Yes, I can see the GPRS connection symbol why is this service not working?
 

There could be a number of reasons including:

  • Coverage, in areas where GSM coverage is poor, GPRS may have issues connecting to the network. if you are able to make a voice call then you should be able to connect to the GPRS network. With GPRS the resources are shared amongst all users.
  • Devices are incorrectly set up. You can find each GPRS devices configuration guides on the following web site www.mobilinkgsm.com/gprs_activate.php. The handset settings can be done by the user himself / herself through the mentioned website.
  • If the Internet site you are trying to connect to is not available or is unable to load, this could mean that your browser or the server where the web page is hosted is down.
  • The GPRS phone may need to be switched off then back on before re-attempting to connect.
  • Service is down

If not, will a subscriber from Lahore who has GPRS activated on his number be able to use it if he travels to another place i.e. Lahore subscriber goes to Gujranwala on regular basis & wants to use GPRS while in Gujranwala?
 

No, but if the same subscriber travels to a city where GPRS is available then he can use GPRS.

In GPRS settings, how do we differentiate between the "Continuous" and "Permanent" session types?
 

It means the same.

15.
What if subscribers have a handset that is not MMS-capable, can they still receive MMS messages?
 

No, if it is a non-MMS capable handset (or what we call a legacy phone), they will only be alerted via SMS that they have an MMS message. The MMS message can then be viewed via the website.

16.
What if MMS is sent to a non MMS subscriber? Would it be charged?
 

Yes.
